Original 13-year-old me description

Postmortem-ish, 21-year-old me

This was the first game I ever made completely on my own and published to itch.io. I originally made it back in junior high, at a time when my only real game-dev experience was making Minecraft mods through an online kids’ course. After a long break from creating anything, I decided I wanted to learn how to make a “real” game in a real engine by myself.

Naturally, I did what countless beginners before me have done: downloaded Unity, opened a YouTube tutorial, and copied everything step by step with only the vaguest idea of what any of it actually meant. I only made it through part one of the tutorial before my motivation ran out, but somehow that was enough to spark this project into existence.

The game ended up taking inspiration from those old web-browser “rage games.” When I realized I could not make the controls feel smooth, I decided to stop treating that like a problem and start treating it like a feature. The floaty movement became part of the challenge, pushing the game into territory closer to The World’s Hardest Game.

I submitted it to a “My First Game” jam, and from there, the rest is history.
